Few evacuees from Sudan on quarantine
About 45 evacuees who returned from conflict-ridden Sudan have been placed under quarantine in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru: About 45 evacuees who returned from conflict-ridden Sudan have been placed under quarantine in Bengaluru. This exercise was conducted as they did not possess their certificates for Yellow Fever vaccinations.
Upon arrival at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, the evacuees were unable to produce vaccination certificates, resulting in their placement under four-day quarantine by the health department.
Under the ‘Operation Kaveri’ rescue mission, approximately 362 individuals arrived in the city on Friday from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. According to reports, the airport officials have notified the evacuees to also pay the quarantine fees.
Sources claimed that on the initial two flights earlier, passengers arriving at Mumbai and Delhi airports were not required to provide any certification. However, those who arrived at Delhi and Bengaluru airports on subsequent flights were asked to present their vaccination certificates.
The Health Ministry guidelines suggest that individuals returning from countries affected by Yellow Fever must present their vaccination certificates to immigration officers upon arrival. Few countries that are at risk of Yellow Fever are said to be Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Republic of Congo and the war-torn Sudan.
