Gurugram: Haryana is reportedly mulling a second lockdown in a partial, restricted manner. The lockdown is likely to focus on clusters in Gurugram which are driving the coronavirus pandemic numbers in the state.

Haryana, where coronavirus till a few days ago was in check, saw a sharp spike mainly in Gurugram and Faridabad. Both the epicentres of the coronavirus pandemic in the state are urban metros, with Faridabad also being one of the industrial powerhouses in the north. Moreover, a large number of people commute between Gurugram and Delhi on a daily basis.

Haryana has reported 12,010 confirmed Coronavirus cases so far and 188 deaths. The state recorded close to 500 cases on Wednesday alone. Haryana has a low fatality rate of 1.55% and has 4,897 active cases, while 6,925 patients across the state have recovered or have been discharged.

Haryana, it is estimated, would require 37,500 beds at the time that the infection touches its peak.

Media reports stated that some commercial points such as Sadar Bazar could come under the proposed lockdown. The lockdown in clusters likely to be imposed in Gurugram could last around 10 days, according to media reports. With large market spaces like Sadar Bazar likely to be shut and the focus of the lockdown being on clusters, Haryana is likely to take up more aggressive containment strategies.
