New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a blog hit out at the BJP and said that some supporters of the party are using media to spread hatred by circulating fake videos and news.
The blog came after a row had erupted in Bengal over Mamata Banerjee reprimanding BJP workers who chanted "Jai Shri Ram" near her convoy on Thursday.
Later, the BJP announced it will send 10 lakh postcards with "Jai Shri Ram" written on them to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Responding to the BJP's jibes at her handling of the issue, Mamata Banerjee said that Bengal has always been the seat of great social reformers like Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Vidyasagar and has promoted harmony, progress and constructive thinking. Mamata Banerjee accused BJP of mixing religion with politics.
The West Bengal CM said, "I have no problem regarding usage of any particular slogan of political parties in their rallies, and for their party purpose. Every political party has its own slogan. My party has Jai Hind, Vande Mataram.
The Left has Inquilab Zindabad. Others have different slogans. We respect each other. However, Jai Sia Ram, Jai Ram ji ki, Ram naam satya hai have religious and social connotations.
We respect these sentiments. But BJP is using religious slogan Jai Sri Ram as their party slogan in a misconceived manner by mixing religion with politics.
She called it a "deliberate attempt to sell hatred through vandalism and violence". "We do not respect this forcible enforcement of political slogans on others in the name of so-called RSS which Bengal never accepted.
This is a deliberate attempt to sell hatred through vandalism and violence which we must oppose together. One can fool some people sometimes, but cannot fool all the people all the time," added Mamata Banerjee.
