New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that India and Sri Lanka face a common problem of terrorism and that both the countries will fight the menace together. Earlier, PM Modi met the Sri Lankan prime minister, Mahinda Rajapaksa here on Saturday.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also had a meeting with the Rajapaksa. Jaishankar and the Sri Lankan PM discussed issues relating to partnership and security concerning the two neighbours. They also discussed matters related to defence, security and trade.

PM Modi remarked that India and Sri Lanka are neighbours and share common bonds. "Terrorism is a big problem in our region, both of us have fought it befittingly. We will further increase our cooperation against terror," PM Modi added.

PM Modi also observed that in Saturday's talks India and Sri Lanka discussed joint economic projects in Sri Lanka. The two neighbours also focussed on enhancing trade and investment relations. "We also discussed to increase our people-to-people connectivity and encourage tourism," PM Modi said.
