Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at the Congress for indulging in vote bank politics in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, in his reply to the Motion of Thanks to the President's address to parliament. Referring to the opposition to Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) PM Modi said that some members call it discriminatory, others call it a hasty step, and some say that it is divisive. The Congress and other opposition parties were provoking Muslims by spreading false propaganda, he said.

In an indirect reference to Shaheen Bagh PM Modi observed that Congress leaders are giving provocative speeches in these protests and that important members of Parliament reach the protest site which is unfortunate.

PM Modi remarked that people who back the anti-CAA protesters are those who stand by the Tukde Tukde gang which is out to destroy India. He accused them of speaking in the language of Pakistan. The prime minister observed that Pakistan has tried every trick in the book to mislead Muslims of India. Those who are supporting the CAA protests are speaking the same language, he added.

PM Modi remarked that the day Congress starts looking at India as India, will it realise its mistakes. Taking a jibe at the Congress, PM Modi pointed out that if it had not created such a ruckus, the country would not have seen its true face.

Alluding to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Prime Minister Modi said that India was partitioned to fulfil his dream of becoming a prime minister. He also quoted from Nehru's letter and speeches in parliament to substantiate his point on the persecution of minorities in Pakistan and Bangladesh. He pointed out Pandit Nehru himself admitted that Hindus and other minorities in Pakistan faced untold oppression. PM Modi reminded the House of the 1984 massacre of Sikhs and wondered if the Congress did not consider Sikhs a minority community.

PM Modi reminded the House about the constitutional rights of people

under the Congress regime and referred to the Emergency. He also wondered why Congress did not extend the Constitution of India to Kashmir for 7 decades. Some critics warned that Kashmir would burn after the abrogation of article 370, PM Modi recalled.

The prime minister quoted the separatist statements of former chief ministers of Jammu and Kashmir Farooq Abdullah Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and warned that the government will not allow anyone to disrupt peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
