Rahul, Priyanka meet P Chidambaram at Tihar Jail
Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived at Delhi's Tihar Jail on Wednesday morning to meet their party colleague and ex-finance minister P Chidambaram.
New Delhi: Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra arrived at Delhi's Tihar Jail on Wednesday morning to meet their party colleague and ex-finance minister P Chidambaram.
Chidambaram was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court on October 22.
But he was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the money-laundering case on October 16 and is in judicial custody. Senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Manish Tiwari met Chidambaram in Tihar Jail on Monday.
A special CBI court on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of Chidambaram till December 11 in INX Media money laundering case. Chidambaram was presented before the court at the end of his judicial custody today.
He was arrested by the ED on October 16 and subsequently sent to judicial custody by the court in Tihar jail till November 27.The High Court had, on November 15, dismissed his bail plea and observed that prima facie allegations against him were serious in nature and he played an "active and key role" in the offence.
