They say they won't "feed into the negativity" after being accused of potentially inspiring others to put themselves in danger.

A couple criticised for a "dangerous" photo on the edge of an infinity pool have defended their actions.

Instagram travel bloggers Kelly Castille, 33, and Kody Workman, 32, said the image was edited for "dramatisation" and that they were safe while staging the picture.

It shows the American couple kissing while Ms Castille dangles off the edge of a three-storey pool at the Bali resort of Ubud.

Many people in the photo's comments section criticised their actions as "stupid" and "dangerous", saying they might be inspiring copycats to put themselves in danger.

Others accused them of narcissism, with one user writing: "Vanity and narcissism appears to be your greatest principle. You have done admirably upholding that principle."

"There is a pool below", the US couple responded.

We should reciprocate the actions of those that uphold us. In a world of growing sensitivity, judgement and belittling under currents it is easy to fall from our innocent bliss and positive default. Remember that when we are treated with love, kindness and genuine support that we innately feel the urge to do the same for someone else. This is the vibe we should emit, the only ripple into the world that we should create. ※ ※ #indonesia #sulawesi #beachresort #beautifulseasia #paradiseisland #sunsetsky #coupletrip #travelbloggerlife #worldofwanderlust #travelpost #aroundtheglobe #destinations #travellingourplanet #couplestravel #luxuryresort #bestintravel #togetherisbetter #forevertogether #beachbody #fitcouple #fernweh

Addressing the backlash in an email to Fox News, they wrote: "We aren't going to feed into the negativity on this.

"We have received so much love, support, kindness and thoughtful messages from friends, family and our community.

"This is something we are very happy about, an aspect of this that we find ourselves immensely proud of."

The couple said their account is about "creativity, photography, kindness, perspective, and above all... positivity. Whether a photo does well or not, whether it is perceived one way or another, is irrelevant to us.

"This has become a bigger deal than we could have ever imagined and we, going forward only wish to discuss positive things and the reality behind the photo."

Some users defended the photo, with one person writing: "I think it's a beautiful moment and picture, I hope they frame it. True love, a powerful trust."

Castille and Workman revealed they had worked hard for "many, many years" and saved as much money as they could to make travelling "more of a lifestyle".

The duo met while travelling in Panama in October 2017 and have an Instagram following of more than 100,000.
