Makar Sankranti in Telangana

Makar Sankranti is one of the important festivals celebrated in most parts of the country with pomp and fervour including Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The festival is never complete without the lip smacking snacks mostly made up of flour of freshly harvested rice, sesame seeds and jaggery.
Sakinalu
Appeared in concentric circular savoury, Sakinalu are made of rice flour is a traditional snack of Telangana prepared for Sankranti. The festival is incomplete in Telangana households without the dish.
Nuvvula Laddu
Nuvvula laddu is a popular sweet dish prepared for Sankranti with Sesame sweets, jaggery and nuts. The delicacy is popular in Telangana and Maharashtra.
Ariselu
Ariselu is one of the most sought after sweet prepared for most of the festivals including Sankranti. The roti-shaped sweet made of soaked rice, jaggery and poppy seeds.
Murukulu
Another snack item from Telangana mostly prepared for Sankranti, Dasara and Diwali which is also made from rice flour and sesame seeds.
Kajjikayalu
Another sweet prepared for the festival besides nuvvula laddu and Ariselu for Sankranti. In Telangana, the stuff inside Kajjikayalu is made of sesame seeds, peanuts and sugar or jaggery and coconut powder depending on their taste.
