Kohli’s perfect record ends

Before the day-night Test in Adelaide, Kohli had never lost a Test after winning the toss. His overseas record was impressive too: 8 Test victories after winning 10 tosses. Now, Kohli’s record away from home: 8 Wins, 1 Loss after winning 11 tosses.

With the 9-wicket victory over India, the Australians have won all the eight day-night Tests they have played so far.

With 46 wickets in eight day-night Tests, Starc continues to be at the top. Next in the list of most wickets with the pink ball are Hazlewood (32 wickets), Lyon (29), and Cummins (26).

Kohli top-scored with 74 in the first innings before getting out for 4 in the next. He has finished the year without scoring a century in any format.

When wickets began to fall like nine pins, Aussie skipper Paine remained intact at the other end in the first innings. He scored a crucial 73 not out off 99 balls.

On day three of the first Test in Adelaide, Team India were all out for 36 – their lowest Test total. India’s previous total was 42 all out vs England at Lord’s in 1974.

No Indian batter scored in double figures in the second innings, which was only the second instance of all 11 batsmen of a side failing to score in double digits in the history of Test cricket. The previous instance was when England dismissed South Africa for 30 in 1924.

With 7 wickets in the Adelaide Test, Cummins completed 150 wickets in Tests. He was the joint-second quickest among Aussie bowlers alongside Dennis Lillee, Shane Warne, and Stuart MacGill. The quickest to the landmark was Clarrie Grimmett.

The Indian skipper is set to return home to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. His deputy, Rahane, will lead India for the remaining Tests in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Both the teams will now head to Melbourne for the traditional Boxing Day Test. Australia are 1-0 up in the four-match Border Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21.
