India Defeat Australia By 8 Wickets: 8 highlights from Boxing Day Test at MCG

India seal 2nd Test in 4 days
After bowling out Australia for 200 on Day 4, Team India chased down the target of 71 in 15.5 overs to seal the game inside four days. India and Australia are at 1-1 with two more Tests to go in the series.
A win despite missing stars
India went into the Boxing Day Test without Virat Kohli, Mohammed Shami, and Ishant Sharma. In the middle of the 2nd Test, India’s senior pacer Umesh Yadav suffered an injury and never played again in the game. Debutants Gill and Siraj stepped up, while other players like Rahane, Jadeja, and Bumrah made significant contributions.
Rahane’s record
Rahane became the first Indian player to score a Test century as captain on Australian soil and also win the game. He was awarded the Player of the Match for his knock of 112 off 223 balls.
Siraj’s feat
Hyderabad-based fast bowler Siraj became the first Indian bowler to claim five or more wickets on debut on Australian soil in the last five decades. Siraj finished with figures of 5 for 77 in Melbourne. The last bowler to do so was Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga, who had picked 6 for 92 in 2004 in Darwin.
MCG: India’s most successful away venue
It was India's fourth win at the iconic MCG in Test cricket, making it their most successful away Test venue. England are the only other away side to have won four or more Tests at the MCG – 20.
Steve Smith yet to fire
Smith, who was named the ICC Male Test Player of the Decade, is yet to score in double digits in the ongoing Border Gavaskar series. His scores from the last two Tests read: 1 & 1* and 0 & 8.
David Warner’s return?
Australia are immensely missing their regular opener David Warner, who is currently recovering from an abductor injury he suffered last month. Matthew Wade and Joe Burns have not been able to give Australia the required starts and the hosts will hope to have Warner back for the New Year’s Test.
Will Rohit Sharma play in Sydney?
Even India have had woes in their opening department. Prithvi Shaw was dropped after a poor outing in Adelaide. Even Mayank Agarwal has not been at his best with Rohit waiting to pounce at an opportunity. It would be interesting to see if Team India will persist with Mayank or not.
