Dhoni holds the record of leading India in the most number of Tests – 60. Having led in 56 Tests so far, Kohli can emulate Dhoni’s record in the upcoming four-match Test series vs England.

Kohli is one century behind equalling former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting in the list of most international tons, across formats. Having played 423 international matches, across formats, since his India debut in 2008, Kohli has recorded an aggregate of 70 centuries, while Ponting had scored 71 tons in 560 matches.

As of now, Kohli and Ponting are tied on 41 international centuries as captain. With India scheduled to play four Tests, five T20Is, and three ODIs against England, one can expect Kohli to surpass Ponting in this record.

Having played 87 Tests, Kohli has registered 27 centuries. He is currently tied with Steve Smith and is two away from Bradman’s tally of 29 Test tons. In the Test series vs ENG, Kohli can definitely try to equal or surpass the late legendary batsman.

As of now, Kohli has scored 7,318 runs from 87 Tests at 53.41. In the four-match series, Kohli can surpass the runs tally of several legends. Some of them are Ross Taylor (7,379), David Boon (7,422), Clive Lloyd (7,515), and Mohammad Yousuf (7,530).

If Kohli (87 Tests) plays all the four Tests vs ENG in the upcoming series, he’ll surpass Dhoni (90 Tests) in terms of the number of Tests played for India.

Kohli first played vs ENG in 2012 and since then, he has played 19 Tests, scoring 1,570 runs at 49.06. In the upcoming four Tests vs ENG, Kohli could become the only third Indian to score 2,000 or more runs against these opponents after Tendulkar (2,535 runs) and Gavaskar (2,483 runs).
