Ola to launch its first Electric Scooter in Second Half of 2021

A cab-hailing company, OLA took everyone by surprise with its aggressive move into EV space. Many feel the strategy adopted by the brand is smart, interesting and it would help save both time and effort.

Ola’s -500-acre mega two-wheeler factory
Ola Electric has begun the construction of largest scooter factory in the world. The factory is located at krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu state and the new facility is about 500 acres. The above factory would not only help cater the demands of our nation, but it would also help meet export needs. The factory would run at full capacity by June 2021 and its annual capacity would be 2 million units. It would be capable of producing a scooter every 2 seconds.

The two wheeler’s overall design is simple yet futuristic; it carries forward the Etergo Appscooter design along with neo-retro styling. This scooter has both organic and clean look, its fluid lines flow from the front apron to the rare panels with integrated lights. The stickers are not overdone, all you will notice is, embossed logo in the front apron. For flush finish, the pillion footpegs have neat fold into the side panels. Seats have got premium red stitching and they are spacious enough for two and it flows into a cleverly designed two-piece grab rail.
What makes it practical?
The vehicle has got two cubby holes on the apron and for storage a fixed utility hook. Apart from these, it has got massive underseat storage.
What are its features?
Ola scooter comes with geo-fencing, navigation, smart phone pairing, all of these can be controlled and viewed on a large 7 inch touch screen display. Its console also helps the users to control not only music but also incoming calls as well. Handlebar mounted navigation switches makes the toggling information much safer and simpler.
How about Performance?
The vehicle is powered by a 3kW brushless AC motor having a peak performance rated at 6kW and 50Nm. The manufacturer claims its scooter can easily bolt from 0.45kmph in mere 3.9 seconds, which brings it very close to its competitor, popular electrical bike Ather450x.
Ola Electric Scooter has Removable Battery Setup
The Ola electric bike will have three removable battery setup and each of which having charge capacity around 1.155kWh and its range would be 80km on a single charge. You can expect a range of nearing to 240km with all the three batteries; this would be definitely more when compared to all other electric scooter sold in India.
What is its Expected Price?
Ola plans to sell its first electric bike, Ola Electric for about Rs. 1.35 lakh. It would give tough competition to Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450x and TVS iQube Electric. The manufacturer is expected to be highly competitive with regards to pricing because it aims to hit a massive level when comes into operation.

The manufacturer has kept details regarding Powertrain and range under wraps. It is more likely to sport permanent magnet synchronous (PMS) motor, which would send power to the rear wheel. The vehicle is also expected to get cloud connectivity along with host of other features.
