India and Pakistan have been drawn in Group 2 along with New Zealand, Afghanistan, and two qualifiers from Round 1.

Due to political tensions between the two nations, India and Pakistan do not play bilateral series. Both the sides have won a T20 World Cup each. India beat Pakistan in the inaugural T20 WC final in 2007 before the latter won the title in 2009.

India and Pakistan have played each other as many as five times in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan are yet to defeat the Men in Blue in the competition, losing four and tying one (India won on bowl-out).

The first-ever T20 World Cup game between India and Pakistan got tied after Pakistan got bowled out for 141 while chasing India’s target of 142. India earned the crucial points by winning the bowl-out.

In the same edition, the two rivals met again, this time in the final. Batting first, India posted 157 for 5 in 20 overs. Pakistan responded well before the equation came down to 13 runs off the final over. Dhoni gambled by handing the ball to Joginder Sharma, who sealed the game and title in three balls.

India and Pakistan faced off in a group game in the 2012 edition in Colombo. An all-round effort from Team India meant, they won the game by 8 wickets and 18 balls to spare.

The two sides locked horns in a group fixture in Dhaka. Batting first, Pakistan managed to post only 130 for 7 in 20 overs. In reply, Kohli and Raina remained unbeaten on 36 off 32 and 35 off 28 respectively as India sealed the game by 7 wickets.
