Suresh Raina’s room with balcony

Even before the IPL 2020 went underway in the UAE, controversies began to hit the tournament. CSK legend Suresh Raina, who travelled with his side to the UAE for the 13th edition, allegedly returned to India after he was denied a room with a balcony as demanded that was similar to the one provided to the team skipper MS Dhoni. However, Raina rubbished the allegations, saying he had to withdraw from the tournament due to personal reasons.
Chris Jordan’s one-run short
In the second match of IPL 2020, between DC and KXIP in Dubai, saw a bizarre umpiring decision. Chasing 158, KXIP were nearing a win when Mayank and Jordan decided to run for a double. The on-field umpire, Nitin Menon, felt Jordan had not crossed the crease while completing the first run and hence adjudged it a short run, but the replays showed otherwise. The decision went on to haunt KL Rahul’s side as the match ended in a tie before Delhi sealed the game via Super Over.
Sunil Gavaskar vs Anushka Sharma
Gavaskar found himself amid severe trolling and criticism on social media when he made some comments about Kohli and Anushka on air while commentating during an IPL 2020 match. He was also accused of making a ‘disrespectful’ comment by Anuskha via an Instagram story. Soon after Gavaskar cleared what he actually meant, the controversy soon faded off.
Match Fixing
In the middle of IPL 2020, a player reported to the BCCI about being approached for match-fixing, bringing back ghosts of IPL 2013. While the name of the player was not revealed, the chief of BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), Ajit Singh, confirmed the about approach.
Jimmy Neesham vs Aakash Chopra
In one of his YouTube videos, Aakash Chopra criticised the inclusion of the New Zealand all-rounder, who he termed as “not a match-winner". When a fan pointed this out to Neesham on Twitter, the witty player responded, “averaging 18.5 and striking at 90 doesn’t win many matches either”, taking a dig at Chopra’s IPL career.
MS Dhoni’s stare makes the umpire change decision
In an IPL 2020 match between CSK and SRH, when Paul Reiffel almost spread his arms to signal a wide, Dhoni gave the umpire an angry stare forcing the umpire to retract his action. The replays showed the ball to be clearly outside the wide tramline and that led to the debates of spineless umpiring in IPL 2020.
Virat Kohli - Suryakumar Yadav
Just after being ignored by the BCCI for India’s upcoming Australia tour, Suryakumar played an excellent knock for MI vs RCB. During the game, Kohli went close to Surya, stood for 15 seconds. No verbal chatter happened, but an unfazed Suryakumar stood his ground and kept looking back into Kohli’s eyes, did not move an inch.
