Chirala: A young engineer, Ankamma Rao, belonging to Jagarlamudi in Yeddanapudi mandal in Prakasam district, was allegedly kidnapped by Bodo militants in Chiran district in Assam around 4 pm on Sunday. The incident came to light on Monday. Rao has been working for Bollineni Seenaiah & Company in Assam for the last 10 years,

The abduction reportedly took place at Madhapur in Chiran district, while Rao was travelling along with his staff in a bus to a site to oversee contract works of the PowerGrid Corporation. On learning about the kidnap from the media, Rao’s wife Vani appealed to the militants to release him unharmed immediately. The couple has two children.

The family which is in deep distress has yet to get any information regarding the demands of militants. It wants Rao freed on humanitarian grounds as Vani is indisposed and their children are very young. According to relatives, Rao was adopted by Bathula Venkateswarlu and Bangaramma.

A pall of gloom has descended on Jagarlamudi; the villagers urged that the State government intervene in the matter. They alleged that the militants were resorting to abduction as the Assam government failed to take up proper security measures. It is learnt that Rao was provided with a gun man recently.
