All rebel talk to end with a whimper? As the deadline for sending the Draft State Reorganisation Bill 2013 is drawing closer, political strategies have started unfolding.
Kiran not likely to queer pitch for high command
No ‘rebel’ likely to be put up in Rajya Sabha poll
Kiran doesn’t go to Delhi as he has to be in House
High command does not take any serious view of it
Hyderabad: As the deadline for sending the Draft State Reorganisation Bill 2013 is drawing closer, political strategies have started unfolding.
It appears that the noises that are being made by the Seemandhra Congress leaders whether it is in regard to blocking the T Bill or flexing their muscles on the eve of the Rajya Sabha elections would end in a whimper.
Sources said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy also does not want any rebels to contest and cause embarrassment to the party leadership. They claim that Kiran had not burnt his bridges with the party high command as was being speculated in the political circles. He is only opposed to the manner in which the Centre is trying to divide the State.
Substantiating his claim, the source said Kiran had spoken to AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday morning and told him that he had planned to come to New Delhi in case the President did not give any extension to discuss the T Bill, but since the President had given one week time, he was not in a position to attend the meeting with Rahul Gandhi on Saturday, but assured his full cooperation to the party in implementing the party strategy.
Digvijay Singh said Kiran was not visiting Delhi as he had to be present in the Assembly during the discussion on the crucial Bill, but he said he would continue to be in close contact with Chief Minister on the issue of Rajya Sabha elections.
Sources add that all these developments indicate that Kiran had not burnt his bridges with the party leadership.
According to a senior party leader who has been privy to the meetings that Kiran has been holding with senior leaders including some MPs, the thinking of Kiran is that they should not do anything which would go contrary to the party line. He is learnt to have told them the party high command is of the opinion that it should field three candidates and leave one seat to TRS.
The leader said that it is true that some Seemandhra leaders have been contemplating to put up a Seemandhra candidate as independent, and already some names such as J C Diwakar Reddy, K V Satyanarayana Raju and Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao are doing the rounds.
But finally, no rebel candidate would be in the race. Even the TDP does not want to fish in the troubled waters, the leader added.
Meanwhile, another MLA T Jayaprakash Reddy told the media in the lobbies of the Assembly that though Kiran has been opposing the T Bill, he continues to be a loyal Congressman, and he is sure that Chief Minister will neither resign nor will he launch a new party as is being speculated.
Even Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao dropped hints that he is not seriously considering to stay in the fray. He said he would decide on contesting the Rajya Sabha polls only after consulting Union Minister K Chiranjeevi.
