Chittoor Lok Sabha constituency has produced prominent leaders like Madabhushi Ananthasayanam Ayyangar, the second Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Acharya Ranga, and P Rajagopal Naidu, political guru of N Chandrababu Naidu.

Though the TDP had set a record by winning five times in succession, it may not be easy this time around. The Chittoor Parliamentary constituency, which is reserved for SCs, comprises Kuppam, Palamaneru, Chittoor, Puthalapattu, Gangadhara Nellore, Nagari and Chandragiri Assembly segments. So far, the Kuppam Assembly segment, represented by Chandrababu Naidu, has been playing a key role in the success of the Parliamentary candidate. TDP nominee N Shivaprasad had defeated Dr Tippeswamy (Congress) by a margin of nearly 10,000 votes in the last elections. This time, there are seven candidates in the fray – Shivaprasad (TDP), Samanya Kiran (YSRCP), Dr Rajagopal (Congress), Pushparaj (Jai Samaikyandhra Party) and three Independents.
Shivaprasad is confident of winning the seat due to the support he received during the Samaikyandhra agitation. Moreover, former ministers Galla Aruna Kumar and Gummadi Kuthuhalamma quit the Congress and joined TDP, giving a major boost to the yellow party. Senior leader Gali Muddukrishnama Naidu also happens to be from Nagari constituency, strengthening TDP’s chances further. YSRCP has fielded Samanya Kiran as it believes that he has a good chance of winning if the party campaigns extensively in the Assembly segments, barring Kuppam.
Former bureaucrat Chandramouli is contesting from Kuppam Assembly constituency on the YSRCP ticket. Congress candidate Dr Rajagopal and JSP nominee Pushparaj are facing an uphill task due to lack of cadre. Hence the fight will be mainly between the TDP and YSRCP.
