Finally, the much awaited movie of the year, Rudramadevi hit screens on Friday.
Story:
We have read this many times during our childhood. The film will track the travails and tribulations of 'Rudrama Devi'.
Rudramadevi was a warrior queen of Kakatiya Kingdom. Her story is now on celluloid, thanks to the great efforts of Gunasekhar. The movie starts with Megastar Chiranjeevi's voice over.
An Italian merchant traveller Marco Polo (Gary Tantony) narrates the story of Kakatiya king Ganapatidevudu and his daughter Rudramadevi. Rudramadevi was the only heir of Ganapatidevudu to carry forward the legacy of the kingdom. Thus she was raised as a male child named Rudradevudu. How did Rudramadevi face challenges as a woman queen within her kingdom? How did she safe guard the interest of Kakatiya kingdom?
How a determined woman like Rudramadevi go through all the struggles to save her people, save kingdom?

Performances:
Anushka does her best in the title role. She emotes through her powerful eyes like in Baahubali and looks perfect as a warrior queen. She is picture perfect at the war scenes.
Allu Arjun is perfectly cast as Gona Gannareddy, his performance layered with rebellion and fight against exploitation by the rich. Finally, Allu Arjun delivers stellar performance and steals the show.
Prakash Raj makes a strong impression and he becomes a pillar to the story as well as in the second half.
Rana Daggubati plays the role of Chalukya Veerabhadra and he has justified his role. Since he has little role, he hardly makes any impression. Nitya Menen is outstanding. Her scenes with Anushka in the second half are shot very well.
The other characters including Krishnam Raju (Ganapati Devudu) and Baba Sehgal (Nagadevudu) have performed well and leave an impression.

Anushka and Allu Arjun's stellar performances
A Visual treat
Rich backdrop
Drawbacks:
Dull moments midway
Graphic works are not up to the mark
Analysis:
After SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali, Rudramadevi is another big budget movie to release in theatres this year. But don't go with high expectations like Baahubali, it might disappoint you. However, the efforts of the director deserves a round of applause. Gunashekar gives you a peek into history and his deep research throws up a few interesting revelations about Rudramadevi.
It's Gunasekhar's dream project and he has invested his soul into the film. Finally, Gunasekhar's hard work has paid off and won the battle. He has made the film which can be watched by everyone. The film is touted to be India's first stereoscopic 3D film but may not leave you surprised.
Battle sequences in the end could have been trimmed. The outcome of the story is no surprise, but there are enough clever tactics to keep the audience hooked. Eminent music composer Ilayaraja's music is not that impressive this time.
Verdict: Watch it for Rudramadevi
Rating: 3.5/5
