All India Bhavani Deeksha Sangham president Lanka Trinag Ganesh Guru Bhavani has objected to the appointment of private priests on contract basis by Durga Malleswara Swamy Varla Devasthanam for Viramana of Bhavani Deeksha atop the Indrakeeladri Hill, instead of continuing the tradition of utilising the services of Guru Bhavanis for its relinquishment.

Addressing a news conference at the Press Club here on Friday, Ganesh said Rachakonda Kameswara Rao came up with the idea of observing Bhavani Deeksha in 1979 to promote the worship of Goddess Kanaka Durga and Bhakti Tatva among people. In 1983, the Devasthanam issued an order that Bhavani Deeksha Virmana by devotees should be done only in the presence of Guru Bhavanis.

The Guru Bhavanis were felicitated in 2005 for rendering excellent services in Deeksha Viramana and promoting the worship of the Goddess. The Devasthanam gave up the practice in 2006 due to various reasons and started appointing private priests on a contract basis for Deeksha Viramana which nullified its earlier order that Bhavani devotees should relinquish their Deeksha only in the presence of Guru Bhavanis.

Since then, the private priests had started exploiting Bhavani devotees by demanding money and other gifts. On the first day of Bhavani Deeksha Viramana on Friday, five private priests were caught while they were stealing money from the Irumudi of devotees due to lack of a strict vigil on their activities at the temple, he said.

He demanded that endowments minister Pydikondala Manikyala Rao to look into the matter and make it mandatory that Deeksha Viramana should be done only in the presence of Guru Bhavanis as in the past. Identity cards should also be issued to Guru Bhavanis participating in Deeksha Viramana, he said, seeking allotment of a room on the Devasthan premises to the Sangham to set up its office for propagating Bhavani Deeksha. Sangham secretary L Mohan Srinivas and other members were present.
