Professor of Community Medicine Dr J Ravikumar cautioned people against the dangers of Ebola disease.Speaking at a health education programme on Saturday organised by Vasavya Nursing Home, the doctor said that Ebola has proven to be more dangerous than AIDS and Swine flu.

“Ebola is potent enough to terminate the entire human race. The first Ebola case was registered on December 6, 2013, in which a two-year old boy died. A few months later, the boy’s mother, sister and grandmother too died due to the disease,” he said. “The death rate is more for this disease as there is no preventive medicine or treatment. The disease was first identified in 1976 in Sudan. It was initially with animals, then later on it spread to people in African countries. In the recent past, of over 17,942 persons tested for this disease, 11,280 were positive,” he said.

Talking about the symptoms of the disease, Dr Ravikumar said that people would suffer from fever, headache, muscle pains, vomiting, motions, stomach pain and bleeding. He added that the disease easily spreads from person to person and even through sweat. Indian Medical Association former president Dr G Samaram and gynecologist Dr Maru were present at the event.
