Tanishq Jewellers arranged a ‘Bommala Koluvu’ at its showroom on Wednesday on the occasion of Sankranti. Singer Smita along with her daughter lit the lamp to mark the inauguration of the festival. A wide range of toys, including the famous Kondapalli and Etikoppaka dolls were displayed at the Bommala Koluvu highlighting the rich culture and heritage of Telugus.

The toys arranged in neat rows included Ramayanam epic themes, Krishna Leela, bride in palanquin, national leaders, animals, birds and children. Idols were also set up and the showroom was decorated with rangolis and flowers to create a festive ambience.

Event organiser and showroom owner V Jogulamba said, “The whole idea is to utilise the occasion for a dual purpose that will enable customers visiting the showroom to connect with their traditions and more importantly to promote the toys of Kondapalli artisans. It will help revive the traditional art form which is facing the threat of extinction and provide support to the Kondapalli artisans who are dependent on toy making for their livelihood. The Bommala Koluvu will be kept in the showroom for another two or three days.”

“When we organised Bommala Koluvu for the first time last year, the response from people was good. It motivated many customers to organise Bommala Koluvu at their homes to uphold the age-old tradition associated with Sankranti. Hence we organised Bommala Koluvu this year also for the cause of Kondapalli toymakers,'' she said.
