District Education Officer Srinivasulu Reddy issued a directive to unregistered private schools to close down or face action. He instructed his subordinate staff to identify unregistered private schools and issue show cause notices asking them to close down. “Penalty will be levied on schools which delay closure and as a last resort, police assistance will be taken to pull down the shutters of such schools,” the DEO added.

During the Congress rule itself, the State government had released a GO that all unregistered schools should register with the DEO within the specified time frame and had carried on a campaign for some time. However with the passage of time, the education officers too became lenient and failed to act tough with those who did not comply with its orders. However the TDP government has instructed the education department to crack the whip and close down all unregistered schools. All unregistered schools would be deemed to be unrecognised and as non-existant by the government.
