Sri Sai Baba Mega Silpasala organisers B Siva Vara Prasad and Kamadhenuvu Prasad sculpted a model of BR Ambedkar for a 125-ft tall statue of the Father of Indian Constitution. The idea was proposed by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao to mark the birth anniversary celebrations of the Dalit icon.

Showing the model of Ambedkar statue to newsmen at their workshop at Bommuluru village in Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna district on Thursday, BSV Prasad and K Prasad said they sculpted it with the help of 13 sculptors. It took 25 days and cost them Rs 25 lakh. The duo said they would sculpt a full-scale model of Ambedkar statue within three months if they were given an opportunity.

The sculptors who received the national award from the then President APJ Abdul Kalam in 2005 in recognition of their craftsmanship, urged the two Chief Ministers to encourage local talent without opting for foreign sculptors to execute the prestigious projects. Engineers Venigalla Venkata Subba Rao, Mallampati Amar and K Eswarachari were also present at the news conference.
