The Heart and Brain Institute of Andhra Hospitals has successfully performed three heart surgeries using the advanced minimally invasive procedure. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Dr PV Ramana Murthy, managing director of Andhra Hospitals, said mitral valve replacement surgery was successfully performed on 18-year-old Tirupathamma of Ulavapadu in Prakasam district using the advanced procedure.

She was discharged from the hospital within four days of undergoing the heart surgery as against the normal stay of 10 days in the conventional procedure. The congenital defect in the heart wall of Nagamani (32) of Chatrai in Krishna district was rectified. The leakage in the heart valve of Ramaiah (68) of Bellamkonda in Guntur district was also successfully repaired at the institute.

Explaining the benefits of minimally invasive procedure, Dr Ramana Murthy said it helps patients recover speedily after undergoing the heart surgery. Dr Dileep Kumar, cardiothoracic surgeon, was also present at the news conference.
