X Ray Sahitya Samskritika Seva Sanstha, Vijayawada had organised a week long ‘Harikatha Saptaham’ recently at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College with the support of Department of Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

X Ray Sahitya Samskritika Seva Sanstha, Vijayawada had organised a week long ‘Harikatha Saptaham’ recently at Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College with the support of Department of Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh.

Harikatha and Burra katha basically belongs to Andhra Pradesh and the art forums was most popular during 19thCentury. Harikatha is the composition of many art forums like storytelling, music, poetry, action, dance and expression. These Harikathas are mainly based on myths.

Unfortunately now-a-days these art forums are rarely visible. In those days this art forum was popularised by ‘Harikatha Pitamaha’ scholar Adibhatla Narayana Das. The efforts of X Ray were appreciated for conducting this Saptaham. On the inaugural day Burra Padmanabha Sarma narrated the ‘Sundarakanda’.

On the following days ‘Maharadhi Karna’ by Katta Jejinarayana of Visakhapatnam, ‘Rukmini Kalyanam’ by Mogilicherla Nagamani of Tenali, ‘Mahakavi Kalidas’ by Madamal Rambabu of Machilipatnam, ‘Bhisma Pratigna’ by N Vasantakumari of Nellore, ‘Srinivasa kalyanam’ by S. Bharathi from Eluru, ‘Sri Krishna Rayabaram’ by Vinnakota Ramakumari from Tenali.

All these Mythological stories were well received by the number of audience and these Harikathas were supported by Panyam Dakshinamurthy on Violin and Ammula Prasad on mrudangam.
