Graduates of School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, celebrated the second convocation day recently at a function hall in Kamayathopu of Vijayawada rural mandal.

In his address, guest and Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y Satyanarayana Chowdray said that Union government had unleashed an urban transformation programme in the country through the missions like Smart City, AMRUT, Swachh Bharat and HRIDAY. Planning human settlements in the current day context must take into its ambit the requirements of green energy, clean water, mass mobility, nutrition, healthcare, education and waste management.

The Minister said that School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada was the eye of development of the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh, both geographically and intellectually. He further said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s vision was to develop the State with balanced urban growth centres at Visakhapatnam in the North, Tirupathi in the South, Amaravathi at centre and Ananthapur, Hindupur in the South-west, with a hub.

SPA director Prof. Dr Ramesh Srikonda said that Students not only learn the required skills, but also were provided with exposure to thought-provoking and intellectually inspiring sessions. The school had entered into Memorundum of Understanding with several reputed national and international institutions for students and faculty exchange programmes.

In the convocation, 72 Students were awarded Bachelor of Architecture Degrees, 25 students were awarded Bachelor of Planning, 13 were awarded 13 Master of Architecture (sustainable architecture), 17 were awarded Master of Planning (Urban and Regional Planinig) and 11 were awarded Master of Planning (Environmental Planning and Management).
