First state-level girl football tournament at Ongole

The first state level football tournament for girls started at the police parade grounds in Ongole on Thursday. The tournament, with participants from nine districts of Andhra Pradesh, was inaugurated by Dr Rajeswari Varma and Suvarna Varma, mother and wife of SP Trivikrama Varma.

Dr Rajeswari Varma wished the girls to be active in sports and said that the certificates would help them to score over others in the present day competition for jobs.

D Ravi Prasad, secretary, P Samuel Raju president of the Prakasam district women football association introduced the players to the guests. The AP football association president SA Naveed, district Olympic association president U Polaiah and other officers participated in the programme.
