Jeep is set to revive the Grand Wagoneer name with an all-new full-sized SUV expected to debut in 2018. The news of the development of the SUV comes after images detailing the company’s future model plans were leaked online along with images showing some of the details of the upcoming SUV’s front and rear end.

Images of the Wagoneer’s front fascia leaked show styling elements such as the prominent seven-slat Jeep grille, slim LED headlamps and sleek-looking LED fog lamps. At the back, the tail-lamps mirror the headlamps with slim horizontal LED units.

Jeep has revealed plans for the revival of the Grand Wagoneer back in 2012 with further details about the model’s positioning emerging in late-2014. When launched, the SUV will take its place atop the Jeep line-up as the new flag-ship model for the automaker. As per reports, it will share components with the new Maserati Levante SUV, including mechanicals such as the engines.

However, as per the model plan, Jeep is set to debut two new SUVs –the next-gen Wrangler and Grand Cherokee – prior to the Grand Wagoneer, sometime in 2017. Also planned is a facelift for its small SUV, the Renegade.

The original Grand Wagoneer was a large seven-seat SUV back in the mid-1980s. Following its discontinuation, Jeep used the name for a special edition of the Grand Cherokee in the early 1990s.

Jeep recently entered the Indian market after much speculation with the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee – the latter available in diesel and high-performance SRT guise. The automaker is set to expand its portfolio next year as it looks set to bring the all-new Compass. The Grand Wagoneer could also make its debut on Indian shores once it goes on sale internationally.
