Department of Culture and Language organised flute concert of Manda Anantha Krishna on Sunday at Sri Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College. Manda Anantha Krishna is a renowned flautist residing in temple town Tirupati and he received a number of awards including the prestigious Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar in the category of Carnatic Instrumental music.

Anantha Krishna commenced his concert with a Shanmukhapriya Raga Varnam, a composition of Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna. He continued the concert with keerthanas like “Sri Maha Ganapathim” in Gowli ragam, Thyagaraja swamy composition in Sudhasaveri ragam “Dari telusukontini”, Deekshitar kriti “kasi Visalakshim…” in Purvikalyani ragam, another Thyagaraja swamy keerthana “Niravadhi sukhada” in Ravichandrika ragam.

He chose the composition of Syama Sastry, “Kamakshi Amba kanchi Kamakshi”, in Bhiravai raga as the main item for the concert. Anantha Krishna enthralled the auditorium with the fine ‘alapana’ and ‘swara kalpana’. The concert was concluded with “Thillana”, a composition of Lalgudi G Jayaraman in Sindhubiravi ragam.

Excellent support was given by KV Krishna on violin, Kotipalli Ramesh on mridangam and Haribabu on ghatam. It is necessary to give publicity to the weekend programmes to get the message out to the public. The department of culture has taken some more initiatives to give wide publicity for the weekend programmes.
