Alekya Punjala excels in ‘Rudrama’

The pre-eminent Kuchipudi dance exponent, Alekhya Punjalaworld is a multiple-award winner who has ragaled the music world over the years.
She blended the styles of Kuchipudi legends Vedantam Satyanarayana Sarma and Pasumarthy Krishnamurthy to bring out her own signatur estyle. A pupil of Uma Rama Rao, Odissi from Dayal saran, she has been awarded Doctorate for her thesis on “Importance of Kuchipudi dance in Kshetrayya padalu”.
In the latest production ‘Rudrama’, her poise in presenting the dance ballet with extraordinary multiple inputs right from stage design to depicting war scenes thrilled the audience. Normally, Kuchipudi dance ballets are based on mythological stories and this Rudrama, a historical ballet, is a rare production in the Kuchipudi dance-drama.
Dr Alekhya Punjala was at her elegant best as Rani Rudrama. Besides this role Rudrama, she also effectively handled story, direction and choreography that exemplified her multi-talents in one go.
Vedantam Venkatachalapati as Veerabhara, Ajay Srinivas as Ganapati Dev, Surendra as Ambadev, Kevin as Yedava king received thunderous applause. Excellent technical inputs were provided by Murali (Lighting), Surabhi Jitendra (Make up), Ganesh (costumes), Krishna Rao (Music), Preetam (Stage and set). The melliflouous voice of Muralikrishna brought richness to the ballet.
