The Department of Language and culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh in connection with the National Women Parliament had conducted an evening of dance and music for the entertainment of the audiesnces.

On Sunday evening the events commenced with the ‘Laya vinyasam’ of Yella Venkateswara Rao, maestro in mridangam, performing five stages of Mridanga Viyasam namely, ‘Chaturasram’, ‘Trisram’, ‘Khandam’, ‘Misram’ and ‘Sankeernam’. The violin support of Peri Thyagaraju was excellent.

The next item of Ghata Laya Vinyasam was presented by Vikku Vinayakaram. He started the laya vinyasam with the item Ganapati nrityam and continued with Jaya Jaya Ganapathi sundara Ganapathi.

Vinayakaram was supported by Swaminathan with Kanjeera and another unique instrument ‘konukkul’. Excellent response was received from the audience for the sounds’ effects like helicopter landing, train movement played by Swaminathan on kanjeera and Vinayakaram’s response on ghatam.

Anandan Sivamani (Sivamani) played drums, octoban, darbuka, udukai, and kanjira in his recital and entertained the gathering. Carnatic, Hindustani and western traditional music was performed as jugalbadi titled “Matru bhoomi” on this stage under the perfect supervision of L Subramaniam and received appreciations from the spectators.
