Shiva temples reverberated to the chants of ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ as devotees thronged to celebrate Mahashivaratri on Friday. The shrines of Lord Shiva, filled devotional fervor, organised special prayers including ceremonies like Rudrayagam etc.
Devotees began arriving from the early hours of day to have a darshan of the lord. In several places where the temples are located on the banks of rivers, devotees took holy dip before queuing up for darshan.
All the temples were decked up for the celebrations, illuminated with electric lamps. The similar rush is seen during the night as there are arrangements for spiritual discourses and bhajans throughout the night.
