Sahasravadhanam by Garikapati Narasimharao

As a part of annual celebrations of Sivaramakrishna Kshetram (Ramakoti), the committee organised a three-day Satavadhanam, a literary event, of ‘Mahasahasravadhani’ Garikapati Narasimha Rao from Monday to Wednesday at Sivaramakrishna Kshetra Sravana Sadanam. Avadhānaṃ is a literary performance popular from the very ancient days in India.

Though Avadhānaṃ originated from Sanskrit, this literary event is popularised by Telugu poets. This Avadhanam requires concentration, memory power, multitasking and observation. To achieve these qualities one should have command on literature, poetry, music, mathematical calculations.

Avadhani, who performs the Avadhanam has to answer to the questions asked by Pruchakas. The format of avadhanams is Astavadhanam, Sahasravadhanam and Maha Sahasravadhanam.

Garikapati Narasimharao is a Maha Sahasraavadhani, who is well known for “Dharana” and he had the skill of fast recollection of hundreds of verses composed and recited earlier. The Sahasravadhanam arranged by the organisers will have six sessions during three days.

On first day about 75 pruchakas participated in the Satavadhanam. First day ‘Samasya’, ‘Dattapadi’ and ‘Varnana’ were dealt by the Avadhani. The first line in the poem was rendered by him and the rest three lines had to be completed on second and third day.

The first question “Droupadi and Sita oka tandriki puttina biddalekada” was raised by the Sringeri Peetha Uttaradhikari Sri Sri Sri Vidusekhara Bharati Swamy. The Avadhani capably answered the first line to the question.

Eminent scholars like Dr Dhulipala Ramakrishna, Dr GV Purnachand, Jandhyala Paradesi babu, KVN Appalacharyulu, Upadrasta, R Narayanacharyulu, Parthsarathi, Kuncham Srinivas, Jandhyala Kameswari, Dr Gumma Sambasiva Rao, Dr Sasri, bhanukrishna, anjaiah, Dr K Ramakrishna, Dr Varanasi Bhanumurthy, Dr Vijayaraghavacharyulu, Bhagya Lakshmi and others participated as pruchakas and several interesting entertaining contemporary issues and mythological subjects like ‘Obama, Trump, Singh, Modi’, “Suma, Anasuya, Udayabhanu, Srimukhi” and the many subjects like “if the Krishnadevarayalu taken rebirth what he will do to protect Telugu”, “ to message for the students who are going to attend the exams”, “Sivaramakrishan kshetram lo Venkatesara swamy”, were raised by the Pruchakas in the avadhanam for rendering the poems.

Garikapati answered first line for all the 75 questions raised by the pruchakas efficiently and interestingly. It is worth to mention the role of Mallapragada Srimannarayana Murthy’s efficient co-ordination for the event. Large number of literature lovers and devotees attend to the event.
