Rumours have been rife about GM shutting down sales operations in India but an official communication by Chevrolet to its dealers has been leaked which communicates that the carmaker will be launching the new Beat hatch this July. The 2017 Chevrolet Beat is not a new generation car but a facelift based on the current model itself.

Looks wise, the new Beat’s front fascia is an inspiration from the Spark sold in the international markets. The headlamps, bumpers and the front grille get some tweaks. The side and rear proportions are largely unchanged. The tail lamps and the bumper get some minor tweaks as well.

However the major rejig is on the inside. Gone is the all-black dash layout, and in comes a dual-colour dashboard with a matte silver centre layout. The new Beat also gets the Chevrolet MyLink2 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The facelifted Beat sits on the same M300 platform as the outgoing model, and will also carry forward the 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine and the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which come mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Expect a marginal hike in the prices for the new Beat. The new Beat will lock its horns with the Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10.
