National recognition for Dr Y Sadasiva Rao

For the efforts and contribution on Diabetic foot treatment, Diabetic specialist Dr Yalamanchali Sadasiva Rao was honored by National Award from ‘National Conclave on Diabetes and Diabetic Foot’ at Mumbai. In this regard a press meet was organised at a private hotel on Friday. Dr Rao was honored for treating about ten thousand patients without amputating their legs who were suffering from diabetic foot problem.

Speaking to the media persons Dr Rao said ‘eat less walk more’ to stay fit and healthy. He also said that aged people have blood circulation problem below the knees which would lead to gangrene and about three people’s legs are being amputated every minute in the world due to diabetic foot problems. Rao said the diabetic foot treatment would be costly if neglected at the early stage.

In India about 6.9 crores people were suffering from Diabetes and equal number of people were in the pre-diabetic state which was a big concern. People who neglect diabetes would suffer from neuro and touch senses which would lead to wounds, infection and then to amputation.

He said that if diabetes was not in control it would lead to diabetes neuropathy, wounds on the foot, kidney problems. People with amputation would suffer from the same problem if smoking and alcohol were not avoided, said the doctor.
