The 44th Annual celebrations and 22nd comedy play let competitions of Sumadhura Kala Niketan concluded at Sidhartha auditorium recently. The competitions were in association with Mummineni Subba Rao Sidhartha kala Peetham. A total of 9 plays with different concepts linked with comedy were staged during the three days.

The competitions were in association with Mummineni Subba Rao Sidhartha kala Peetham. A total of 9 plays with different concepts linked with comedy were staged during the three days.
The first day of the play competitions traditionally started with Nadaswaram. The first play ‘vammo Guttivankaya’ staged by Balaji Arts, Kanuru was written by Veerla Varaprasad and directed by Bhaskar Venigalla. Including the director Suryadevara Jagannadharao, BV Nareen, Bayana Srinivasa Rao, Dontala Prakash and S Amruta Varshini acted in this play. This play was supported by Ch Ganapathi for make-up, T Sambasivarao (Music) and Phani Kumar (Lighting and set).
The second play of the first day was performed by Amateur Drametic Association, Chilakauripet. This play bagged the Best production award and the director SK Shafi received the best director award. This was penned by Addepalli Bharatkumar. Shafi, Kotta Sivaram Prasad, Alla Haribabu, SK Baji Basha, V Chennakeswara Prasad, S Amruta Varshini and Lahari Gudivada. Leela Mohan supported with Music, Chinna did the sets and Sarathi supported with make-up.
The final playlet of the first day was ‘Tokka Tesaru’ presented by Ganesh Arts, Guntur and the director and writer was Varikuti Siva Prasasd. The cast of the playlet included the writer and the other roles were played by K Mohan, Syamala Rao, TP Nasaraiah, Bonepudi Ravi and Lahari Gudivada. Music for this was composed by Leela Mohan, make-up by B Veera Prasad and the set was by Bandlamudi Rajakumar. This playlet got third best production and best actor was awarded to Varikuti Siva Prasad from this play.
Kadhanam, Pamarru presented the first play ‘Saritha Swathimutyam’ on the second day of the competitions. The script and direction for the play was done by Kavi PMM. This play was technically supported by Raveendra Vijaymuri, Leela Mohan and Mohan. Kavi, Lahari, Rangareddy, Ravibabu, Chandu, SV Brown, Balaraju, A Venkata Siva Sekhar, R Vinod, P Rajesh and Vamsi were the actors for this play. This play received the Best music and best make-up awards.
The second play of the second day was ‘Sunadri Subbarao’ presented by Navarasa, Kakinada. Dr SSRK Guruprasad was writer and director of the play. P Manibala, Turaga Subbarao, P Chinasatyanarayana, G Srinivasarao, Nadella Prabhudas, Prasanna Lakshmi and Vijaya acted in this play. The set was erected by Pithapuram Baburao, music by T Sambasivarao and makeup by Parthasaradhi. This play was got a consolation prize for the acting of Vijaya and Best set prize for Baburao.
The third play ‘Vennalochindi’ performed by Malladi Creations, Hyderabad, was written by Sankaramanchi Parthasarathi and directed by Malladi Bhaskar. Malladi Bhaskar, GS Chalapathi, T Muralidhar (consolation prize winner), BH Venugopal and Srija Sadhineni made this play.
The second day concluded with the playlet ‘Okkoroju Inte’ presented by Sri Krishna Telugu Theatre Arts, New Delhi. This was written and directed by Uday Bhagavatula, set and lighting by Umasankar, Music by P Raju and Makeup by Jogarao. The casting K Jogarao, D Chandrasekhar, K Pudareek, Uma Sankar, Srija Sadhineni and the writer.
The third day commenced with the playlet ‘Anaganaga OO office’ by Geetanjali Theatre Arts, Vijayawada. This was penned by BV Syamprasad and directed by V Satyanarayana. Music was by Leela Mohan, and make-up was by Ch Ganapathi. SS Varma, AV Nagaraju, Y Bhavani, V Satyanarayana, M Subbarao, A Pavankumar, BV Syamkumar acted in the play.
The final playlet of the 22nd Telugu Comedy playlet competitions was presented by Murali kala Nilayam, Hyderabad ‘Take it easy’. The script was given by Sankaramanchi Parthasarathi, who was adjudged as best script writer. This was directed by Tallavajhula Sundaram. The casting of the play was Janny, Viswamohan, Surendra, Srinivas and Naveena. This playlet bagged the second best production.
On the event of 44th annual celebrations of Sumadhura Kala Niketan, the Jandhyala Award was presented to veteran movie actor, producer and director Giribabu. Vankayala Satyanarayana was presented with the memorial award of Sanagana kabirdas and noted stage artiste Saroja (Draksharamam) was awarded Radhakumari memorial award.
G Radha Krishna Murthy, Dr PV Ramkumar, MVB Vinayaka Sarma were the judges of this play competitions. The office bearers of Sumadhura Kala Niketan Samanthapudi Narasaraju, Dr MC Das, Dr N Murali Krishna, P Vijaya Bhaskara Sarma, PSN Murthy, K Murali Rama Krishna Sastry , D Kailasa Rao, VVN Prasadbabu and others efficiently organised the three days event with the assistance of the Sidhartha Kala Peetham.
P Lakshmana Rao, Dr Chivukula Sundararama Sarma, Cultural Director Dr D Vijaya Bhaskar, ACP (Traffic) D Sravankumar, BV Ramana Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada and others were peresnt for the programme.
