Veteran stage artiste Maddali Janakinadh has been selected for the prestagious Gandham Naga Subramanyam Pratibha Award and he will receive the award in a meeting scheduled to be held on September 17 in Rajamahendravaram.

Veteran stage artiste Maddali Janakinadh has been selected for the prestagious Gandham Naga Subramanyam Pratibha Award and he will receive the award in a meeting scheduled to be held on September 17 in Rajamahendravaram.

Janakinadh is one among the noted stage artistes in the cultural city and has proved himself in many stage plays and playlets by portraying various characters. At the tender age of 12,(1962) he first acted in a stageplay 'Nirudyogam' while he was in his seventh standard in Munnangi village of Guntur district.

Janakinadh sofar bagged three Nandi awards for his characters. He received the first Nandi award for Sherkhan character in the year 2008, followed by another Nandi award for his character Mahatma Jyothirao Pule and the third Nandi award for portraying the character SP in the Sanchalanam stage-play in the year 2013. He also received golden Nandi award as a jury member for Nandi natakotsavams in the year 2014--2015.

He received best character actor award 29 times for the play, Sanchalanam and 21 times for Soundarya Bharatham. Sofar he performed 700 stage plays and playlets. In addition to this Janakinadh bagged ANR award, Rasamayi award, Chilakamarthi award and recently the Kandukuri Visista Puraskaram Award from the state government.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Friday, he said that his desire is to act out the character of Tanisha.

Some of the important plays he acted in are Narakam Marekkadoleedu, Telugu Velugulu, Amarajeevi, Appaji, Mudraksham, Alarasa Puttillu, Veera Pandya Katta Brahammna, Samrat Ashok, Atu Nunci Itu, Atreyagari Bhayam, Sanchalanam and Soundarya Bharatam etc.

Nandi awards have given life for stage programmes and underlined the need to enhance the remuneration for stageplays artistes. He also advised the government to provide some subsidies to Nandi awardees, which is the need of the hour.

Acting on the stage is a difficult task, when compared with cinemas. There are no takes on stage like in cinemas and because of this, the artistes should come onto the stage with perfection.

Until my last breath, I will act in plays and playlets and that gives happieness more than anything else, he averred.
