Grand welcome accorded to power lifting champion B Chandrika

A grand welcome accorded to Power lifter B Chandrika at the Gannavaram Airport on Tuesday evening, when she arrived from South Africa after winning four gold medals in the Common Wealth games in South Africa. Chandrika hails from Mangalagiri of Guntur district and participated in the Commonwealth power lifting championship held from September 12 to 17 in South Africa.

The 24 year old power lifter won four gold medals in the 84 kg category. She got one gold medal each in squad, bench and dead categories by lifting 175 kgs, 65 kgs and 150 kgs respectively, according to her coach T Mahesh. He said that the power lifter won the fourth gold medal for over-all performance and won appreciation from the Power Lifting Association of Andhra Pradesh for the achievement.

Andhra Pradesh Power Lifting Association president M Prabhakara Rao, Secretary S Koteswara Rao, treasurer G Venkateswara Rao and other association members, power lifters from Krishna and Guntur districts, sports lovers, family members and others received her at the Airport. Later, a procession was taken out from the Airport to Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium where she got felicitated for her wonderful achievement in the international arena in South Africa.
