Rajamahendravaram: Rajamahendravaram Premier Cricket League (RPCL) was formed in government college grounds here on Monday. The league will continue up to December 17 and 32 matches will be played.

Inaugurating the RPCL, Chairman of SC/ST Commission Karem Shivaji, said that the state government was encouraging sports in various ways and decided to make Andhra Pradesh as sports hub. The government directed all educational institutions to allot some time everyday for sports and games.

The students should participate in sports and games everyday, in addition to their curriculum. Recognition comes easily along with jobs under sports quota if the students prove their mettle. It also helps to maintain sound health and good physique also, he added.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu was interested to develop sports sector and decided to construct stadia in all districts, he informed.

Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Federation (APTTF) Chairman Viswanadham Bhaskar Ram underlined the need to bring past glory to the city in sports and games. There was a need of indoor and outdoor stadia in the city and the government should initiate steps to construct the stadia, which has been a long pending demand of the sportspersons.

Local channel managing director Pantham Kondala Rao, said that the sportspersons have been facing many problems due to lack of necessary facilities in the city.

RPCL organiser K Prabhakar, S Sekhar Babu and others were present.
