Akiveedu: A group of people including women obstructed the setting up of a liquor shop at Samatanagar road in Akiveedu village on Wednesday.
The contractor of the liquor shop started the construction of a shed to set up the shop in Samanagar Road of the village. The village Sarpanch, Gontla Ganapati came to the area to lay the foundation stone to the construction of the shed. People of the area including women reached the spot in a big way and obstructed the programme as soon as hearing the news.
“The contractor of the liquor shop had been setting up the shop in a residential area,” alleged the women and expressed their anger over the Sarpanch visiting the place to lay the foundation stone.
Stating that Sarpanch was laying foundation stone despite the Chief Minister’s announcement against setting up liquor shops in residential areas.CPM leaders Kalyani, Dokala Lakshmi, Appa Rao, YSRCP leaders Ambati Ramesh, former Upa Sarpanch Sheikh Hussain lent their support in the protests.
