About 30 children from the city attended the first state-level children’s theatre workshop and drama festival, organised by Dhaksha Theatre Welfare Association, which commenced on December 13 at the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College. 

Vijayawada: About 30 children from the city attended the first state-level children’s theatre workshop and drama festival, organised by Dhaksha Theatre Welfare Association, which commenced on December 13 at the Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao Government Music and Dance College.

The young drama exponents Shaik Basheer, Vasudeva Rao and Jaya Sri trained the students in the areas like acting, voice and direction. The students expressed keen interest to learn principles of drama.

The Department of Culture should encourage organisations to conduct similar type of workshops to promote theatre. The festival started with a children’s play “Devunni mingina manishi’ written by A Bhaskara Chandra and directed by Vemuri Bhagya Sasidhar. The play was produced by Young theatre organisation, Vijayawada.

Susmitha, Jwalita, Akshara, Rakshita, Harsha, Bhavana, Rijuta, Sameeksha, Purvika, Tanusri, Nagavalli, Priyanka, Ishwarya, Cherry, Doondi, Jayachandra, Maheshbabu, Balaji, Dundi and Eswar preformed in the playlet. The spectators appreciated the coordination among the children. There was exceptional technical support rendered by M Girish Kittu, R Vasu, Paramesh and Sitaram while the sound could have been better.

Harshasri Creations presented a social play titled ‘Naa Guudu’ penned by Lakshmi Sowmya and directed by K Syam Prasad. The director played a key role, supported by Amruta Varshini and Anju. Sitaram scored apt music and the dialogues were impactful. Geetanjali Theatre Arts, Vijayawada, staged an enjoyable comedy set written by BV Syam Prasad and directed by Vaddadi Satyanarayana.

V Sayanarayana, SS Varma, BV Syam Prasad, Nagaraj, Narayana, Chandini and Bhavani acted in the playlet who gave an admirable performance. The students of Sri Kanakadurga Nritya Mandir, Vijayawada, also showcased Kuchipudi and folk dance items composed by Yellajosula Anuradha.

The verse drama artiste Ch Vijaya Durga was felicitated on the inaugural day. D Vijaya Bhaskar, Driector, Department of Culture, Gummadi Gopalakrishna, Chairman, AP Nataka Academy, veteran theatre exponents Deekshit, Dr Himasagara Chandra Murthy and Kotla Hanumantha Rao participated in the event.

The senor artiste of Vijayawada, KV Krishna Rao was honoured on the second day of the festival. Golla Narayana Rao, Seeram Subrahmanyam, Rampilla Mohanakrishna and R Rajeswari praised services of Krishna Rao.
