Kovvuru: Excise Minister KS Jawahar has said that the state government is extending welfare and development schemes to the poor people irrespective of caste and creed in the state.

He distributed essential commodities as part of the Chandranna Christmas Kanuka to the underprivileged at his camp office on Friday in Kovvuru.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that out of total 69,244 ration card holders, about 27,866 people are eligible for the Christmas gifts in the constituency. “In Kovvur 15,661 people, Chagallu 7,000, Tallapudi 5,250 people would get the Chandranna Christmas Kanuka kits,” he added.

He said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu believed that everyone must have an able environment to celebrate festivals despite their economic background and introduced the Christmas Kanuka for Christmas, Ramzan Tofa for Ramzan, Sankranti Kanuka for Pongal festival.

Kovvuru RDO YSVKGSL Satyanarayana Rao, Municipal Chairperson J Radha Rani, J Subbaraya Chowdary, Municipal Vice-Chairman Dr Raja Ramesh, AMC Chairman Vegi Chinna and others participated in the programme.
