Eluru: The devotees may face difficulties to visit the Pattiseema pilgrim centre during Maha Shivaratri festival on February 13. Pattiseema festival would be conducted at the Lord Veereswara Swamy Temple in the riverbed of Akhanda Gowthami Godavari every year during Maha Shivaratri. Now, the ghat at Pattiseema is filled with sand dunes and the contractors are unable to put the launches in the ghat.
Every year, arrangements for the Pattiseema festival would be made at the temple and the ghat areas in Polavaram mandal a fortnight in advance. This time, as the sand dunes formed at the ghat, the officials have identified Subrahmanyeswara ghat to run the launches to the island temple in the riverbed. However, the officials did not clear the ghat for either harbouring the launches or take up festival arrangements at the ghat.
Thousands of devotees would visit this famous temple every year. For their convenience, the officials have to set up the launches at the ghats and open ticket booking counters and construct barricades. For the Pattiseema festival, the officials so far have conducted three meetings under the chair of Jangareddigudem RDO Mohan Rao that failed to decide on the launching harbour. About 17 launches were ready to run between the ghat and Pattiseema Temple. No constructions been made so far as the officials have not given a nod yet.
It is estimated that the construction of new decks at Subrahmanyeswara ghat would need 15 days at the least. The official sources said, “Even though the earth movers could plunge into action to remove the sand at the ghat to construct the deck, no efforts have been taken to begin works. “
The deck contractors and launch owners are now in a dilemma whether to run the launches during the Pattiseema festival or not. Polavaram Boat Superintendent Prasanna Kumar said if the revenue officials decide on the ghat, there would be the possibility of harbouring the launches. Meanwhile, the revenue officials said the festival committee would meet at Pattiseema on Thursday to discuss the arrangements.
