Stale meat sellers fined

Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Meat Development Corporation chairman Prakasham Naidu on Sunday said that stern action would be initiated against the vendors who had been selling stored and decomposed meat.

The chairman inspected various meat shops on Sunday morning in the city. He went to the fish market and inspected a chicken centre. He found that the shop owner was selling stored, stale meat to the customers. He imposed a penalty of Rs 30,000 to the vendor.

He visited the Kandrigagudem area and inspected the chicken centres there. Some people complained to him about the GBR Chicken Centre, which was selling stored meat and dead roosters. He warned the owner of the chicken centre and imposed the fine.

Speaking to media on the occasion, he said that he was touring the districts. As part of his visit, he was conducting the surprise checks of the meat shops. He said that it was found that the shopkeeper in the fish market was selling the chicken and meat that was stored in fridges and imposed the fine on him. He said another vendor in Kandrigagudem was also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000. These stored and decomposed meat affects the people’s health, he added.

If the vendors continued like this in future, cases would be registered against them. He said that special teams would be established soon to check this menace. He said the municipal officials should certify the quality of the meat before it was sold to consumers. He said that if the municipal officials failed to do so, action would also be initiated against them.
