Complex PCI surgeries held at Andhra Hospitals
“In India 30 percent bypass surgeries are performed when compared to other countries where less than five percent surgeries are reported. This was due to lack of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) specialists in India,” said Andhra Hospital chief interventional cardiologist J Srimannarayana.

He was addressing the media persons here on Monday and said that interventional cardiologist from Germany Miroslaw Ference had performed complex PCI surgeries successfully on six patients above 70 years at Andhra Hospital Heart and Brain Institute on Monday along with Dr R Dileep and Dr Tulasi Ram.
He said that patients who were on medication for 3 to 4 years were advised for the complex PCI surgeries, he added. He said that performing surgery on patients above 70 years was risky as they develop calcium deposits inside the valves and the main pipe blockages.
He further said that in every two seconds, a person was diagnosed with diabetes. When diabetes was not treated properly that would lead to brain, heart and kidney problems. The only way to get control on these problems was to have diet discipline, exercise and timely medication, he added.
