Guntur: Nori Gopala Krishna Murthy is widely acclaimed for his pioneering contribution to Koyna Hydroelectric Project which introduced several engineering innovations. NGK was born on 10th February 1910 in Bapatla and studied in Bapatla Board School. His 108th birth anniversary was celebrated on Friday under the auspices of Forum For Better Bapatla. His statue in Patel Nagar was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the great engineer.

Speaking on this occasion, the speakers said that he did yeoman service as chairman of the Bhakranangal Dam Mangaement Board. NGK was elected as Vice-Chairman of International Congress of Large Dams. He was awarded Padmashri in 1963 and Padmabushan in 1972.

Nori published several research papers and an engineer of international repute. As a consultant, he was instrumental in constructing several water projects and hydro electric projects in the country. Former principal of Arts College WAGK Murthy, society secretary Velaga Sivaramaiah, Nori Sridhar, Post Master G Prasada Rao, teachers G Indira, Suneeta and students participated.
