Probe into kidney racket in progress

Guntur: Vigilance and Enforcement department is investigating into kidney racket since 2005 in the district. The officials started investigation following irregularities that came to light in Narasaraopet Tahsidlar’s office where the officials issued permission for kidney donation without verification. Later, they cancelled the permission.

The vigilance officials have already collected details of the permission given by the revenue officials in Guntur and Narasaraopet. The district-level committee in the GGH will give permission for kidney donation in the districts. The Vigilance and Enforcement officials are verifying whether the revenue officials were following any norms before giving permission.

Hospitals performing kidney transplants are also violating the norms. How the present rules can be changed to check the irregularities in sanctioning permissions for kidney donations is the biggest challenge. The sleuths are collecting details from the hospitals. After completion of investigation, they will send a report to the government.

Regional officer of Vigilance and Enforcement T Sobha Manjari said, “We have started investigation into kidney racket in Guntur district. We are verifying whether the officials are following the norms. The probe also covers doctors and hospitals. Steps will be taken to check the lapses in the present system.”
