Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Transport Commissioner N Bala Subramanyam said whenever there are changes in the legal instruments, it becomes important for the officers to understand the modifications and additions made to the existing legislation.

He was addressing the gathering at the one-day workshop organised for the Andhra Pradesh Transport Department officials here on Thursday. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, advised the Institute of Road Traffic Education to organise a one-day workshop in Vijayawada with the CSR support of Goodyear India Ltd.

Subramanyam said that the main objective of this workshop was to explain in detail the importance and scientific background about the need behind the new legal articles. This workshop would also help making the officers aware of the changes which would be of a great help, he added. Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) president Dr Rohit Baluja explained the Rules of the Road Regulations from the very basis of discipline, safety and efficiency of road usage.

He told the positive effect of improving road safety would only be possible once the Rules of Road Regulations were properly understood and implemented by the Transport Departments, Traffic Police and consequently by the road users in respective States. He said the amendment to the Rules of Road Regulations, 1989 had already been legislated as Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017 by the Ministry (Gazette Notification 634E), he added.
