Kakinada: The WUF (Weaver’s United Front) State Convener and Ambajipeta MPDO Tutika Viswanadh said that it is a mistake of the government not to appoint a ruling body to Tailors Corporation until now.

In a press release on the eve of the Tailors Day here on Wednesday, Viswanadh stated that the lives of the tailors who gave the world a glimpse of life with their superior precision were now becoming dark. He expressed his grief over the poor and miserable state of the aged tailors and said many in tailoring community were suffering from paralysis and eyestrain.

Viswanadh informed that there are nearly five lakh tailors in the state and many of them are in financial crisis. He also said that many skilled tailors had been migrating to the unorganised sector for their livelihood. He demanded that the government sanction pensions to the aged tailors who cross 50 years of age. He also urged the government to establish a Tailors Corpus Fund and sanction subsidised loans for the welfare of the tailoring community.

Informing that the state budget meetings would start from March 5, he urged the government to immediately appoint the ruling body to the Tailors Corporation. He demanded that the government allot the uniform materials and stitching contract to the tailors instead of contractors.
