Narsapuram: A guest lecture on ‘Right to Information Act- Pros and Cons’ for the benefit of students was organised by Department of Public Administration of Dr CS Rao PG Centre in Sri YN College here on Friday. Prof D Venkateswara Rao, Head, Dept of Public Administration, presided over the programme.

Addressing as resource person, Prof P Mohan Rao, Department of Public Administration, Railway College, Osmania University explained that the Right to Information (RTI) Act was initiated for transparency, accountability and effective participation of people in the government. He said that proper implementation of RTI in administration would help in reducing corruption in bureaucracy and political executives.

“RTI has been implemented in our country since 2005. However, the orientation on RTI is not yet reached to the common man. The government should take initiatives to give proper orientation on this act and take measures for strict implementation,” he said. He stressed that the people should use RTI as their means to question the government and highlight their role in the democratic government.

Later, students interacted with the resource person on the implementation of RTI in our country. Faculty members Dr PV Subba Rao, DDN Prasad and students of first and second year of Public Administration department participated in this programme.
